We Can Help You Pick Out the Perfect Toothbrush for Your Needs
Posted on 7/12/2021 by Dr. David Welton
Many choices can seem overwhelming. When you walk down the toothbrush aisle at your local grocery store, you are bombarded with many choices. However, the decision does not need to be difficult if you have a few things in mind at the point of purchase.
How to Pick a Toothbrush
The main thing you need to keep in mind when picking out a toothbrush is what type of bristles you would like to use. While there is a range from hard to soft, you should understand how the bristles affect your teeth.
If you use a toothbrush which has hard bristles, you are likely to feel the abrasion against the enamel of your teeth. Firm bristles, or hard bristled toothbrushes, are not a top recommendation in our dental office as they can erode your enamel and irritate your gums depending on how hard you brush.
Benefits of Soft Bristled Toothbrushes
A soft bristled brush is a better choice as you want to be gentle with your teeth and gums.
Since you want to find a toothbrush that will be comfortable to use at least twice a day, it is important to choose a toothbrush that is not too abrasive on your teeth. You do not have to brush hard to remove plaque. In fact, if you do brush too hard you could remove your gums! Receding gums can be caused by brushing too vigorously and too hard. Be gentle on your gums and use a soft bristle toothbrush.
