Should You Be Incorporating Mouthwash Into Your Oral Hygiene Routine?

We know we should brush our teeth twice a day. It is the best thing you can do to prevent tooth decay and dental problems. However, when you pick up your toothbrush, do you stare blankly into the bathroom mirror? Perhaps you are not sure where to start or even what to do? By establishing an oral hygiene routine, you don't have to think about what to do each time you brush your teeth.
What Is My Oral Hygiene Routine?
We want to help you create and practice a good oral hygiene routine. It is important to do so, so your teeth can stay healthy for years to come. We advise our patients to brush your teeth for two minutes, spending an equal amount of time on the top teeth and the bottom teeth. Brush your teeth gently while holding your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle pointed toward your gums. Don't forget to brush your tongue as well. Clean as much of your tongue as you can without gagging. The second part of a good oral hygiene routine includes flossing your teeth.
Floss your teeth once a day. Follow the curve of your tooth to avoid damaging your gums. Lastly, we suggest rinsing your mouth with an alcohol-free fluoridated mouthwash. Do this by sipping a small amount of mouthwash and swishing it around in your mouth for 30 seconds. Spit it out when you are done. Don't worry if you cannot hold it in your mouth for 30 seconds at first. A quick rinse is better than nothing. There are several alcohol-free fluoridated mouthwashes available on the market. These options can help prevent dental diseases, strengthen your enamel, and freshen your breath.
